India continued its strong performance at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, adding two more silver medals to its tally through Gulveer Singh and Harjinder Kaur.
Gulveer Singh created history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win a medal in the men’s 10,000-metre event at the Commonwealth Games. The reigning Asian champion delivered an impressive performance, clocking 27 minutes 49.78 seconds to secure the silver medal at Scotstoun Stadium.
Australia’s Ky Robinson claimed the gold medal, while Gulveer’s historic finish marked a major milestone for Indian athletics.
In weightlifting, Harjinder Kaur earned a silver medal in the women’s 69kg category with a combined lift of 227 kilograms.
The 29-year-old’s achievement also marked her second consecutive Commonwealth Games medal, following the bronze she won at the Birmingham 2022 Games.
Her performance gave India its seventh medal from eight weightlifting events in Glasgow.
With these victories, India’s overall medal tally at the Commonwealth Games 2026 increased to 12 medals, comprising 2 gold, 7 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, India’s boxing contingent also continued its impressive run. Four Indian boxers have guaranteed themselves at least bronze medals after reaching the semifinals.
Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain secured India’s first assured boxing medal in the women’s 75kg category. Preeti Pawar advanced to the semifinals in the women’s 54kg division.
Priya Ghanghas booked her semifinal spot in the women’s 60kg event after defeating Scotland’s Niamh Mitchell 4-1 in the quarterfinals.
Jadumani Singh Mandengbam also progressed to the men’s 55kg semifinals, ensuring another medal for India.
With several athletes still in contention for gold, India will look to further improve its medal tally as the Commonwealth Games 2026 continue in Glasgow.
