  • Google Maps has partnered with Yatri App, the official partner of Indian Railways for Mumbai Local Trains, to provide real-time tracking and operational updates for Mumbai’s suburban railway network.
  • The collaboration will enable commuters to access accurate, source-verified train information directly through Google Maps and, soon, through the Where Is My Train application.

Real-Time Mumbai Local Train Information

Under the partnership, Google Maps will utilize Yatri’s proprietary GPS-based tracking system integrated directly with railway control rooms to provide real-time information on train operations.

Commuters will be able to access:

  • Live train locations
  • Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA)
  • Train delays
  • Train cancellations
  • Schedule changes
  • Platform updates

The system is designed to help passengers make informed travel decisions and avoid last-minute inconvenience caused by unexpected operational changes.

Coverage Across Mumbai’s Suburban Rail Network

The rollout covers the entire Mumbai suburban railway system, one of the busiest commuter rail networks in the world.

The service became available on Google Maps on June 3, 2026, and will soon be integrated into the Where Is My Train application as well.

Mumbai’s suburban rail network carries more than 8 million passengers daily, making real-time operational information crucial for millions of commuters.

Additional Features for Commuters

The integrated platform will also offer:

User Incident Reporting

Passengers can report disruptions, delays, and operational issues directly through the system.

Yatri Chat

A community-based feature that allows travelers to share real-time ground information and updates with fellow commuters.

These features aim to create a more interactive and responsive commuter experience.

Technology Behind the System

The service relies on:

  • GPS-based train tracking technology
  • Direct integration with railway control rooms
  • Real-time operational data feeds
  • Passenger-generated updates

This combination helps ensure greater accuracy and reliability of information compared to traditional schedule-based tracking.

Benefits for Mumbai Commuters

The partnership is expected to provide several benefits:

  • Better Journey Planning: Passengers can monitor train movements and choose alternative travel options when necessary.
  • Reduced Uncertainty: Real-time information minimizes confusion regarding delays and platform changes.
  • Improved Time Management: Commuters can optimize travel schedules and avoid unnecessary waiting times.
  • Enhanced Travel Experience: Accurate information contributes to a smoother and more predictable commuting experience.
