DK Shivakumar takes oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka during the swearing-in ceremony.Congress leader DK Shivakumar has assumed office as the Chief Minister of Karnataka after taking the oath of office and secrecy.
  • Senior Congress leader and one of South India’s most prominent political faces, DK Shivakumar was sworn in as the 25th Chief Minister of Karnataka.
  • Alongside Shivakumar, a 13-member cabinet also took oath. Senior Congress leader G Parameshwara was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister, a move widely viewed as the party’s effort to maintain social and political balance within the state government.
  • The new cabinet includes several experienced leaders such as UT Khader, MB Patil, KJ George, KH Muniyappa, Satish Jarkiholi, Ramalinga Reddy, Krishna Byregowda, Priyank Kharge, Ishwar Khandre, Byrathi Suresh and Sharan Prakash Patil.
  • The oath ceremony was administred by the Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot.
  • A notable feature of the ceremony was Shivakumar carrying a copy of the Constitution while taking oath. The gesture follows a trend seen among Congress leaders after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where several party MPs carried copies of the Constitution as a symbolic assertion of their commitment to constitutional values.
  • The swearing-in ceremony was attended by top Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and senior leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
  • The appointment of G Parameshwara as Deputy Chief Minister is being viewed as a strategic decision by the Congress leadership.
  • Parameshwara is an influential Dalit leader and a close associate of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who enjoys strong support among AHINDA voters—an electoral coalition of backward classes, Dalits, and minorities.
