Sanjay Singhal Gets Additional Charge as ITBP Director General

• Senior IPS officer Sanjay Singhal, currently serving as Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), has been assigned additional charge as Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
• The arrangement will take effect following the retirement of incumbent ITBP chief Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor on October 31, 2026.
• Singhal will continue serving as SSB Director General while assuming responsibility for the ITBP.

Who Is Sanjay Singhal?

• Sanjay Singhal is a 1993-batch Indian Police Service officer belonging to the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
• He took charge as SSB Director General on September 1, 2025.
• Before leading the SSB, Singhal served in senior positions in the Border Security Force (BSF).
• He also has previous experience in the ITBP, where he served as Deputy Inspector General and Inspector General between 2008 and 2015.
• His experience in border management and administration is relevant to his additional responsibility.

Why Is the ITBP Important?

• Established in 1962, the ITBP is responsible for guarding India’s border with China along the Line of Actual Control.
