  • The Indo-Tibetan Border Police has successfully completed its first-ever all-women international mountaineering expedition to Mount Everest, creating a historic milestone in the force’s mountaineering history.
  • The 14-member expedition team included 11 women climbers along with three technical and support staff members.
  • The team successfully scaled the world’s highest peak via the South Col route from the Nepal side.
  • The expedition was officially flagged off from the ITBP headquarters. 

Clean Himalaya Campaign Conducted During Expedition

  • As part of the “Clean Himalaya–Save Glacier” campaign, the expedition team also carried out environmental awareness activities in the Everest region.
  • The climbers collected non-biodegradable waste during the mission to promote environmental conservation and glacier protection in the Himalayan ecosystem.

ITBP’s Strong Mountaineering Legacy

With this achievement, the ITBP has now completed 232 mountaineering expeditions, including five successful expeditions to Mount Everest.

The force has also successfully scaled six of the world’s peaks above 8,000 metres, including:

  • Mount Everest
  • Kanchenjunga
  • Makalu
  • Lhotse
  • Dhaulagiri
  • Manaslu

Major Boost for Women in Adventure and Security Forces

  • The successful Everest expedition is being viewed as a significant achievement for women in uniformed services and adventure sports.
  • The mission reflects the growing role of women personnel in challenging operational and leadership roles within India’s security forces.
