Rwanda’s rising cricket star Utagushimaninde has created history by becoming the youngest centurion in women’s T20 International cricket, marking a significant milestone in the sport.

Her remarkable innings powered Rwanda to a commanding 210/3, showcasing dominance from the start. Apart from her century, the next highest contribution came from Merveille Uwase, who scored an unbeaten 32 off 19 balls. Interestingly, Rwanda also benefited from 28 extras, including 25 wides.

In response, Ghana struggled to keep up with the target and managed only 88/8 in 20 overs, handing Rwanda a massive 122-run victory.

Record-Breaking Feat

Utagushimaninde surpassed the previous record held by Uganda’s Prosscovia Alako, who scored a century at the age of 16 years and 233 days in 2019.

She also went past Australia’s Karen Rolton, who had scored 96 not out on T20I debut in 2005, which remained the highest individual score on debut for many years.

Global Context

In men’s T20I cricket, only four players have scored a century on debut. Canada’s Matthew Spoors leads with 108*, while France’s Gustav McKeon is the youngest male centurion in the format.
