The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has approved the establishment of Vishnu Women’s University, making it the first private university exclusively for women in Andhra Pradesh.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday.
The Cabinet approved a proposal to promulgate an ordinance amending the Andhra Pradesh Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2016.
The amendment will add Vishnu Women’s University and Chalapathi University to the schedule of private universities, allowing their sponsoring organizations to establish the institutions under the brownfield category.
The announcement was made by Information, Public Relations and Housing Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy during a media briefing in Amaravati.
First Private Women’s University in Andhra Pradesh
The approval marks a significant milestone in women’s higher education in the State.
Vishnu Women’s University will become the first private university dedicated exclusively to women in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The university will be established by the Sri Vishnu Educational Society (SVES), a reputed educational organization with decades of experience in higher education.
Transformation of Sri Vishnu Engineering College for Women
The proposed university will evolve from the Sri Vishnu Engineering College for Women, located in Bhimavaram.
Established nearly 25 years ago, the institution has built a strong reputation for providing quality technical education to women.
The Sri Vishnu Educational Society also manages the BVRIT Group of Colleges, which offers programmes in:
- Engineering
- Pharmacy
- Management
- Degree Courses
These institutions operate across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Following the Cabinet’s approval for brownfield expansion, the existing college will be upgraded into a full-fledged private university.
Existing Women’s Universities in Telugu States
Although Vishnu Women’s University will be the first private women’s university, the Telugu States already have two government-run women’s universities:
- Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh)
- Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University, Hyderabad (Telangana)

Cabinet Approves Phase-II Government Recruitment
Apart from the university proposal, the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet approved Phase II of the Job Calendar 2026–27.
The Cabinet cleared the recruitment of 3,168 vacancies across various government departments through direct recruitment.
The move aims to strengthen public administration while creating employment opportunities for eligible candidates across the State.
Industrial Infrastructure Gets a Boost
The Cabinet also approved a proposal allowing the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) to execute an addendum to the existing:
- Shareholders’ Agreement
- State Support Agreement
The agreements are with the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) for implementing industrial parks approved under the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana.
The decision is expected to accelerate industrial infrastructure development and attract greater investment into Andhra Pradesh.
