In a significant leadership transition at India’s premier aerospace PSU, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has appointed Ravi K as its 22nd Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). He officially assumed charge on May 1, 2026, succeeding D K Sunil, who retired on April 30.
A Veteran with Over 30 Years of Experience
Ravi K brings more than three decades of expertise spanning aerospace & defence (A&D), manufacturing, and electronics sectors. Prior to this elevation, he served as Director (Operations) at HAL, where he played a crucial role in strategic planning and operational excellence.
One of his notable contributions includes helping HAL achieve the prestigious Maharatna status, marking it among India’s elite public sector enterprises.
Key Contributions to India’s Defence Ecosystem
Ravi K has been deeply associated with the indigenous fighter jet programme LCA Tejas. His leadership roles have included:
- Executive Director & General Manager of the LCA Tejas Division
- Driving higher indigenisation by increasing local content
- Expanding production capacity, especially in Nashik facilities
- Ensuring operationalisation of Tejas aircraft in the Indian Air Force
He was instrumental in securing major defence contracts, including:
- 180 LCA Tejas aircraft for the Indian Air Force
- 156 LCH Prachand helicopters for the Army and Air Force
Strengthening Manufacturing & Innovation
Under his leadership, HAL has:
- Built a robust manufacturing ecosystem by outsourcing fuselage assemblies to private players
- Enhanced fleet serviceability through customer-centric initiatives
- Established real-time data communication with IAF bases
- Created a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) system for faster support
He also diversified HAL’s portfolio into:
- Civil aviation manufacturing
- Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services
These initiatives have opened new revenue streams and strengthened HAL’s market footprint.
