Government launches JANANI digital platform to improve maternal and child healthcare services in IndiaThe Centre has launched the JANANI digital platform to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services across India.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched a new digital platform named JANANI to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services across the country.

The platform was launched during the national summit on “Innovation and Inclusivity: Best Practices Shaping India’s Health Future.”

According to the ministry, JANANI aims to ensure seamless monitoring of pregnant women and children through digital health records, real-time tracking, and improved coordination among healthcare programmes.

What is JANANI?

  • JANANI stands for “Journey of Antenatal, Natal and Neonatal Integrated Care.”
  • It is a service-oriented digital platform developed as an upgraded version of the existing Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) portal.
  • The platform is designed to comprehensively track healthcare services provided to women during their reproductive years and maintain longitudinal digital health records.
  • The system captures service delivery events across the entire continuum of care, ensuring continuity of healthcare support from pregnancy to postnatal stages.

Key Healthcare Services Covered Under JANANI

The JANANI platform will facilitate continuous monitoring and tracking of several important maternal and child healthcare services, including:

  • Antenatal care
  • Delivery preparedness
  • Institutional delivery
  • Postnatal care
  • Newborn care
  • Home-based newborn and young child care
  • Family planning services

The Health Ministry stated that the platform will help ensure timely interventions and better monitoring of beneficiaries at every stage.

QR-Enabled Digital Mother and Child Health Cards

One of the major features of JANANI is the introduction of QR-enabled digital Mother and Child Health (MCH) cards.

These digital cards will:

  • Allow portability of health records
  • Enable easy access to medical information across healthcare facilities
  • Improve continuity of treatment and monitoring

The feature is expected to particularly benefit migratory populations by ensuring healthcare records remain accessible nationwide.

Real-Time Monitoring and High-Risk Pregnancy Alerts

JANANI includes several advanced digital features aimed at improving healthcare outcomes.

Key features include:

  • Automated alerts for high-risk pregnancies
  • Real-time dashboards for supervisory monitoring
  • Due-list generation for frontline health workers
  • Targeted intervention tracking

These tools will help health officials and frontline workers identify vulnerable cases early and provide timely medical assistance.

Integration with National Digital Health Platforms

The platform has been developed with interoperability features, enabling integration with national digital health initiatives such as:

  • U-WIN
  • POSHAN

This integration will support seamless data exchange and better coordination across different healthcare programmes.

Multiple Registration and Authentication Options

Beneficiaries can register on JANANI using multiple identification methods, including:

  • ABHA
  • Aadhaar authentication through OTP and biometrics
  • Mobile numbers

The platform also includes a pan-India beneficiary search feature to avoid duplication of records and maintain continuity of care for people moving across states.

Self-Registration and Digital Access for Beneficiaries

JANANI offers self-registration facilities through web and mobile platforms.

Registered beneficiaries will be able to:

  • Access digital MCH cards
  • View nearby healthcare facilities
  • Check expected place of delivery
  • Receive health education and nutritional guidance

The ministry said the platform will improve healthcare accessibility and empower beneficiaries with digital health information.

Current Progress of JANANI

According to official data released by the ministry, the platform has already achieved significant scale:

  • 1.34 crore beneficiary registrations
  • Over 30 lakh pregnant women registrations
  • More than 30 lakh digital MCH cards generated
  • Over one lakh biometric verifications completed

Strengthening India’s Digital Healthcare Ecosystem

The launch of JANANI reflects the government’s continued emphasis on digital healthcare transformation and inclusive public health delivery.

The platform is expected to improve healthcare access, ensure continuity of maternal and child care services, and strengthen India’s broader digital health ecosystem through technology-driven monitoring and coordination.
