• The ‘Jal Pakhwada‘ campaign is being held across all schools and educational institutions in Uttar Pradesh from today until April 30th, as part of the ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’.
  • The government is undertaking this unique measure to promote water conservation by directly engaging the education sector.
  • This initiative aims to transform water conservation into a collective public responsibility.
  • By involving lakhs of students, the campaign seeks not only to raise awareness but also to instill active responsibility for saving water, starting in classrooms and spreading across society.
  • To ensure accountability, a robust monitoring system is in place. Schools must submit daily online reports detailing activities, participant numbers, descriptions, and uploaded media (photos/videos) via a tracker.
  • Basic Education Officers are designated as nodal officers at the district level.
  • The ultimate goal is to turn the conservation drive into a mass movement, fostering long-term behavioral change.
  • They will host workshops in collaboration with departments like Jal Nigam, Panchayati Raj, Basic Education, and Health.
  • Daily ‘water pledges’ will be administered during school assemblies, and awareness efforts will target students and parents to reach every household.
  • Student participation will be encouraged through various activities, including essay writing, debates, quizzes, drawing, and creative competitions, to build sensitivity and responsibility. Additionally, schools will conduct special drives to clean and maintain drinking water sources and storage facilities.
  • Water quality will be tested by Jal Nigam laboratories, ensuring necessary purification measures are implemented.
