  • V. D. Satheesan was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Kerala following the victory of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in the Assembly elections.
  • The oath of office was administered by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at a grand swearing-in ceremony held in Thiruvananthapuram. Satheesan took oath in the name of God.

20-Member Cabinet Takes Oath

  • Along with Satheesan, a 20-member Cabinet was also sworn in.
  • The new ministry includes senior leaders from Congress and its alliance partners.

  • The Cabinet includes 14 first-time ministers, including Chief Minister Satheesan himself, who entered government for the first time despite representing Paravur constituency since 2001.
  • The Cabinet also includes two women ministers and two members from the Scheduled Caste community.

UDF Registers Massive Victory

  • The Kerala Assembly elections for the 140-member House were held on April 9, 2026, and results were declared on May 4.
  • The Congress-led UDF secured a decisive victory with 102 seats, while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) won 35 seats and the BJP secured three seats.
  • Thousands of UDF workers and supporters gathered in Thiruvananthapuram to celebrate the formation of the new government, cheering loudly as each minister took oath.
