In a major step towards strengthening India’s maritime capabilities, the Ministry of Ports Shipping and Waterways has signed a Plan of Implementation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency.
This collaboration aims to enhance skill development in India’s shipbuilding and marine sector, aligning with the government’s long-term vision of transforming India into a global maritime powerhouse.
Aligning with Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047
The initiative is part of the broader Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, which focuses on building a future-ready and globally competitive shipbuilding ecosystem.
The project, titled “Support the Establishment of Development Strategies and to Build a Foundation for Skilled and Professional Talents for the Indian Shipbuilding and Marine Sector”, seeks to:
- Strengthen India’s maritime workforce
- Enhance industrial competitiveness
- Position shipbuilding as a key driver of economic growth
Key Objectives of the Collaboration
Under this partnership:
- KOICA, along with the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training, will conduct comprehensive research on India’s shipbuilding sector
- Focus areas include:
- Workforce mapping
- Skill gap assessment
- Development of a master plan for human resource development
This will result in a structured and actionable roadmap to build a skilled workforce tailored to industry needs.
