  • The Indian Navy has launched a strategic mission, ‘Operation Urja Suraksha’, to ensure the safe passage of India-bound energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global oil transit route currently facing disruptions.
  • As part of the operation, more than five frontline warships have been deployed in the region to escort and protect Indian-flagged vessels carrying essential energy supplies. The mission is being carried out with precision and low visibility to maintain security and avoid escalation.
  • The Navy has identified all India-bound ships transporting LNG, LPG, and crude oil for protected transit. In total, around 22 vessels have been shortlisted for evacuation or escort, including 20 high-priority ships carrying critical energy resources.
  • The operation has already delivered early success. Two LPG carriers ‘Pine Gas’ and ‘Jag Vasant’ have safely navigated the Strait under naval protection. Together, they are transporting nearly 92,000 tonnes of LPG and are expected to reach Indian ports shortly.
  • This mission highlights India’s proactive approach to safeguarding its energy security amid rising geopolitical tensions.
  • By securing vital sea lanes, the Indian Navy is ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply, which remains crucial for the country’s economic stability and daily needs.
