In a significant step to enhance the ease of commuting for commercial vehicle drivers and fleet operators, the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with several commercial vehicle aggregator platforms. IHMCL is a company promoted by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The MoU was signed at the NHAI headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of Santosh Kumar Yadav, Chairman of NHAI, and Vishal Chauhan, Chairman and Managing Director of IHMCL.
Representatives from five commercial vehicle aggregator platforms also attended the event, including WheelsEye Technology India Pvt. Ltd., BlackBuck Ltd., TrucksUp Solutions Pvt. Ltd., TruckSuvidha – Sarvodaya Infotech Pvt. Ltd., and Saffron Navigators Pvt. Ltd..
Integration of Rajmargyatra App
As part of the collaboration, aggregator platforms will integrate the Rajmargyatra App to improve road safety and provide real-time updates to drivers travelling on national highways.
Through this integration, drivers will receive timely safety alerts regarding:
-
Accident-prone stretches
-
Traffic diversions
-
Construction zones
-
Presence of stray cattle
-
Adverse weather conditions
The platforms will also encourage drivers to voluntarily register on the Rajmargyatra App and share user feedback and usage data to improve the system.
Driver-Led Reporting System
The initiative also promotes Jan Bhagidari (public participation) through a driver-led reporting mechanism. Commercial vehicle drivers will be able to report highway issues using geo-tagged information.
Drivers can report problems such as:
-
Potholes on highways
-
Damaged crash barriers
-
Non-functional streetlights
-
Faded road markings
-
Other unsafe roadside conditions
These reports will be integrated into the Rajmargyatra ecosystem for centralized monitoring and resolution.
Strengthening Emergency Response
To improve emergency assistance on national highways, the aggregator platforms will integrate the National Highway Helpline 1033 within their applications.
This feature will allow drivers to access emergency support with a single click, enabling them to share their real-time location. It will also help drivers receive updates about ambulance dispatch and nearby hospital information, ensuring faster response during accidents or emergencies.
Promoting Safe Driving Practices
The MoU also aims to promote responsible driving behaviour among commercial drivers. Safety awareness videos focusing on key road safety practices will be shared through the aggregator platforms.
These awareness initiatives will emphasize:
-
Avoiding over-speeding
-
Preventing wrong-side driving
-
Maintaining lane discipline
-
Avoiding unsafe stopping or reversing
-
Using the 1033 helpline during emergencies
‘Vishisht Saarthi’ Recognition for Drivers
To encourage responsible driving, NHAI has introduced the ‘Vishisht Saarthi’ recognition programme. Under this initiative, commercial drivers who demonstrate exemplary compliance with road safety norms will be recognised with certificates and digital badges.
During the MoU event, the NHAI Chairman also felicitated several commercial drivers for their safe and responsible driving practices on national highways.
Improving Transparency and Feedback
The partnership will also enable drivers to provide structured feedback on:
-
Toll plaza operations and waiting time
-
Accuracy of toll charges
-
Lane efficiency at toll booths
-
Quality and hygiene of wayside amenities
This feedback will help authorities improve service standards across the national highway network.
FASTag Grievance Redressal
To simplify complaint resolution, the aggregator platforms will facilitate reporting of FASTag related issues such as:
-
Incorrect toll deductions
-
Delayed transaction postings
-
Toll disputes
-
Know Your Vehicle (KYV) related problems
Reported cases will be digitally escalated to the relevant authorities for timely resolution.
A Step Towards Smarter Highways
This MoU represents a major step towards leveraging digital technology and partnerships to improve road safety, emergency response, and service transparency across India’s national highways.
By enabling active participation from the commercial driver community, the initiative aims to strengthen highway safety while enhancing the overall travel experience for drivers and fleet operators.
