Domestic airline Akasa Air has announced a strategic collaboration with Noida International Airport to establish an Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the upcoming airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.

Under the agreement, Akasa Air will operate the MRO facility within the airport premises, providing advanced aircraft maintenance services and supporting a wide range of operational activities.

Strengthening India’s Aviation Infrastructure

The proposed MRO facility aims to strengthen India’s aviation infrastructure and position Noida International Airport as a major aircraft maintenance hub in the country. The facility is expected to improve operational efficiency for airlines while also contributing to regional economic development.

According to the official statement, the project will also create employment opportunities and promote skill development in the region.

First MRO Facility for Akasa Air

This will be the first MRO facility established by Akasa Air since the airline began operations in August 2022.

Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, said that building domestic maintenance capabilities is essential as India’s aviation market continues to grow rapidly. He added that investing in MRO infrastructure early is part of the airline’s strategy to strengthen its operational capabilities and contribute to a self-reliant aviation ecosystem in India.

Boost for Regional Economy

Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Noida International Airport, noted that the partnership will enhance India’s MRO capabilities and generate new opportunities for local employment and skill development.

The collaboration is also expected to support the development of a strong and integrated aviation ecosystem, which will help sustain long-term industry growth and improve efficiency in airline operations.

Key Development for Noida International Airport

Earlier, on March 6, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted an aerodrome licence to Noida International Airport, marking a significant step toward the start of flight operations at the airport.

Significance

The establishment of the MRO facility is an important step toward strengthening India’s domestic aircraft maintenance capabilities, reducing reliance on overseas maintenance services, and supporting the rapid expansion of the country’s aviation sector.
