In a significant move to boost India’s aviation sector, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

This partnership aims to strengthen the rapidly growing Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) sector by improving the quality of training and building a skilled workforce for the future.

Focus on Better Training and Career Opportunities

One of the key goals of this collaboration is to improve Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) education in India. Both GSV and DGCA plan to standardise training, raise quality standards, and make careers in aviation maintenance more attractive for young people.

A major highlight of this initiative is the introduction of a three-year B.Sc. programme in Aviation Maintenance Engineering, which will combine academic knowledge with practical industry exposure.

Supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat

The partnership also aligns with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, focusing on building domestic capabilities in aviation. It aims to reduce dependence on foreign MRO facilities and promote local expertise in aircraft maintenance and component manufacturing.

The initiative will also support government schemes like UDAN, which aim to improve regional connectivity and expand the aviation network across India.

Pilot Launch from 2026–27

The new B.Sc. (AME) programme will begin in the 2026–27 academic session at selected premier institutions such as GMR School of Aviation and Air India AME Academy.

This pilot phase will help set a benchmark for quality education and training before the programme is expanded across the country.

Strong Industry and Global Collaboration

GSV has already partnered with leading aviation companies like Airbus and Safran, and is in talks with global institutions such as ENAC France and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

These collaborations will help create a modern, industry-relevant curriculum and provide students with better exposure to global practices.

Building a Future-Ready Ecosystem

This MoU creates a strong link between academia, industry, and regulators. While DGCA will continue to set licensing standards, GSV will focus on curriculum development, research, and training.

The collaboration will include:

  • Hands-on training
  • Simulation-based learning
  • Apprenticeship opportunities
  • Research in emerging areas like sustainable aviation fuels

Conclusion

The partnership between GSV and DGCA is a major step towards building a skilled and future-ready aviation workforce in India. By aligning education with industry needs and global standards, it will not only support the growth of the aviation sector but also position India as a strong player in the global MRO market.
