• Pakistan has topped the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2026 with a score of 8.57, replacing Burkina Faso as the country most affected by terrorism.
  • This marks the first time since 2011 that Pakistan has ranked at the top of the index.
  • The report, published by the Institute for Economics and Peace, highlights a sharp rise in violence across the country.
  • A key factor behind this surge is the growing activity of militant groups such as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).
  • Additionally, strained relations with neighbouring countries and ongoing regional instability have further worsened the security situation.
  • These combined factors have led to a significant increase in terror incidents, making Pakistan the most impacted nation in the latest rankings.
  • Iran is ranked 18th in the Global Terrorism Index 2026, while the US is placed in the 28th spot.
