Union Minister of Jal Shakti C. R. Patil has officially launched the 9th edition of India International Water Week (IIWW-2026), India’s flagship global water event. The event will be organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti from 22 to 26 September 2026 at Bharat Mandapam.
The theme for this year’s event is “Climate Resilient Water Management”, reflecting the growing importance of sustainable and adaptive water strategies in the face of climate change.
Global Participation and Importance
IIWW-2026 is expected to be a major international platform:
- Around 150 countries have been invited
- 11 countries likely to participate as partner nations
- Participation expected from Central Ministries, States/UTs, and global organisations
The event aims to bring together experts, policymakers, innovators, and stakeholders to share knowledge, best practices, and technological advancements in water management.

The five-day conference will feature a wide range of activities and discussions, including:
- Ministerial Plenary
- Global Water Leaders’ Plenary
- Water Leaders’ Forum

- Country Forum & Thematic Sessions
- Youth Forum and Start-up Forum
In total, around 49 sessions will be organised, covering diverse aspects of the water sector.

The Thematic Forum will focus on critical areas such as:

- Innovative financing for water infrastructure

Focus on Water Conservation in India
During the launch, the minister highlighted India’s ongoing efforts in water conservation. Referring to initiatives inspired by Narendra Modi, he noted that:
- Over 60 lakh water conservation structures have already been created
- The target is to reach 1 crore structures by May 2026
Additionally, a significant portion (30% to 65%) of funds under government schemes like MGNREGS is being allocated to water conservation activities.
